Brock Osweiler and his Miami Dolphins are taking on the Houston Texans Thursday night in a battle between two winning teams.
But that’s far from the biggest story here. Having signed a
four-year, $72 million contract with Houston back in 2016, Osweiler lasted all of 14 starts with Bill O’Brien’s squad before being shipped off to the Cleveland Browns.
While Osweiler has performed well in Ryan Tannehill’s stead thus far, his tenure with the Texans has to be considered one of the biggest busts in NFL history.
Now returning to Houston, Osweiler and his former head coach have attempted to downplay any rift between the two. That’s fine. It’s also readily apparent that there is a major issue.
In fact, The Athletic’s Jay Glazer reported prior to Thursday’s game that they “hate each other.”
Those are some strong words Glazer is using in his reporting. As a veteran NFL insider, he wouldn’t be out here throwing these terms together without some concrete information backing up his claims.
There’s also evidence suggesting that this is in fact the case.
Things boiled over in Osweiler’s only season with the Texans. It was an ugly scene.
And while the team did earn a playoff spot, the quarterback’s three-interception performance against New England in that year’s playoffs was pretty much the last straw.
It will certainly be interesting to see what comes of this Thursday night at NRG Stadium in Houston.
